The Oboe d’amore is a name which transaltes as the “Oboe of Love”.

It was invented as an additional instrument in the oboe family around 300 years ago.

Played by oboists and using the same fingering, the notes sound a minor third lower (a C sounds as an A). The tone is more mellow and perhaps melancholy than the oboe without the deep resonances of the even larger Cor Anglais.
