2016 Quiz

Correct - well done!

The aulos is thought to have had many variants but the most commonly regarded was a double reed instrument vaguely like a simple oboe.

In the picture the aulist is blowing two pipes both of which had a strident insistent tone, one was a drone (single continuous note) and the other played melodies, producing a sound somewhat similar to the modern day bagpipes.

One important part of the technique is thought to have been circular breathing!
